I bought a new scanner, hp scanjet G4010, it has a "scan to email" facility - I tried it, got all mixed up and have somehow got windows mail as my email provider.

Yes, your default e-mail will always be a program installed on your computer such as Windows mail and Microsoft Outlook.
I don't think you can set an internet e-mail as your default, what you can do is scan the image, then go to BTYahoo mail and upload the scanned image to send it. This may take a little longer but it will work.
Either that or you could set a windows mail account up, i have both windows mail and yahoo! mail.
